There’s a lot of ways to consume marijuana. Some people like to smoke it in a joint or blunt, some like to use a vaporizer, some like to use a bong, and some like to bake it into food. All of those approaches are fine in my book, but personally I love baking it into my food. Not only do the methods you use to do this make the potency and effect of the THC much stronger, but you get to eat your favorite foods while you do it! Who doesn’t love that?
With that said, I present to you my personal, refined recipe for the best pot brownies you’ll ever eat.
As anyone who regularly makes edibles knows, there’s more to making them than just sprinkling a few buds into your dish. While this is easy, to get the best results you’ll have to follow a slightly more specific process.
Trust me, it’s worth it.You’re going to have to extract the THC, put it into a new (sweet and greasy) substance, and use it as the active ingredient in the precursor mix to your delicious brownies.
There are two ways to make this substance, and two ways to use them in your brownies – butter and oil.
A word of warning: making marijuana butter is a longer and more complicated process than making marijuana oil.
There are dozens of ways to make marijuana butter. Everybody has their own methods and they’re all equally valid. I’m obviously biased, but my favorite recipe is my own. Click here to learn how to make CannaButter
___Weed. How much you want will vary, but as a general rule of thumb 2.5 grams per serving will work
A coffee filter
___An herb grinder
___Brownie mix. Your favorite type. Any type will do. For this example you’re obviously going to want to be using an butter based mix, so make sure the type you’ve chosen is compatible with that.
___Two pots – one large and one small. Make sure the small one will fit well inside of the larger one.
Fill your larger pot up with water and put your smaller pot inside of the larger one. Make sure none of the water from the larger pot can spill over into the smaller one. Now put the amount of butter specified by the brownie box into the smaller pot (it’s usually 2 or 3).
Now turn your stove on a low to medium setting and wait until the water begins to simmer. This should take longer than 30 minutes. Once you notice the water simmering, turn the heat down a little bit, but not low enough to put an end to the simmer. If it’s too high you risk burning the THC, so use your own discretion when judging the setting.
This will take around 2 hours – 3 maximum. There’s no necessary stirring involved here – just waiting. Don’t worry – it will all be worth it!
Once done, pour your butter through the coffee filter. Since all of the THC has already been extracted, this serves to separate any of the larger or unnecessary chunks of weed like the stems, seeds, etc.
Use this butter to thoroughly coat your pan and proceed to pour in your brownie mix. Cook your brownie precursor for the time and at the temperature specified by your box (it’s usually around 40 minutes and 350 degrees).
Proceed to thoroughly enjoy your delicious brownies!
How to make weed brownie mix with OIL
___Oil. Just about any type will do, just make sure you’re not using olive oil. That won’t work
___Weed. How much will depend on the size and desired potency of the batch and the potency of the pot you’re using. I use an ounce of marijuana for every 3.5 cups of oil, so use a proportional amount for what your brownie box varies. For your standard 9×13 pan, 2-3 ounces Dried Cannabis Leaf (or 1 ounce of bud) will be more than enough. Word of warning: edibles are potent – if you’re new to this, take it easy!
___Brownie mix. Your favorite type. Any type will do. For this example you’re obviously going to want to be using an oil based mix, so make sure the type you’ve chosen is compatible with that.
___A coffee filter. You can use whatever you have lying around, though I find coffee filters work the best.
An herb Grinder
___A Frying pan
___A measuring cup
___A big spoon
Grind up the marijuana in your grinder or a coffee grinder multiple times until it’s extremely fine. The smaller the pot the smoother your brownies will be, so try to get it as close to being powder as possible.
Take this fine grind and spread it evenly over your frying pan. Measure the amount of oil specified by your brownie box and pour it into the pan.
Turn the burner to a medium-low setting and wait until the oil begins to simmer. This should take much longer than 30 minutes. When you see the oil starting to simmer, lower the heat even lower – to the lowest possible setting on your stove – and leave it like that for 2 hours, making sure to stir once every 30 minutes or so. Some people wait as long as 5 hours. This will give the oil a different consistency, but generally I prefer to get this done as fast as possible.
Once 2 hours has passed, pour your oil through the filter. Since all of the THC has already been extracted into the oil, this serves to separate any of the larger or unnecessary chunks of weed like the stems, seeds, etc.
From here on out you can follow the instructions on the box! You have your oil – go ahead and make the brownies exactly how the box tells you to. Enjoy!
