When it comes to the world of dabs - it's more than just a hand gesture coined by the hip-hop music industry. Dabs, wax, shatter or crumble, is a form of extracted THC, whether it be from sugar leaf, plant matter such as the actual buds them selves, or even crud.
In more case than not, when extracting THC for plant matter, the preferred method of extraction if BHO (otherwise known as cold butane extraction). I know what you're thinking... "Why on earth would you douse such a beautiful plant with butane? How is that even remotely healthy?"
I too had the same thoughts when I was taken through an extraction facility that utilized the same methods. However, I was quick to find out that it wasn't at all as bad as I initially thought. The precautions and machinery, put in place, and used, to ensure all butane is extracted from the yield, was far and beyond.
From hot water evaporation, to vacuum chambers and pressurized air-tight canisters, these individuals went to EXTREME measures to ensure that the product that came out was nothing but pure extracted THCa!
So what's the point of all this exactly? Well, since booming onto the scene recently, various forms of these extracts have not only been used to the benefit of medicinal marijuana patients, but has also grown immensely in popularity with the mainstream marijuana community, with a lot of people making the switch from smoking bongs every 15-30 minutes, to having one small dab and being stoned out of their minds for a lot longer periods of time.
To put it into perspective, someone who considers them self a daily smoker, and goes through on average about an Oz a fortnight/month - One gram of extracted THC (wax, shatter or crumble), would last them up to 2-3 weeks. That's right. Less is more.
How does one exactly administer dabs? The tools already exist. You can either go with something like the INFINITY vaporizer starter kit (which allows you to vaporize dabs, wax, shatter, oils, herbs and the lot ) or even dip further into your wallet and get your self a dab rig.
As for which one we prefer? It really comes down to the person. A lot of people we know, have stopped the use of bongs due to the availability of dabs (they personally find it a cleaner high, with a lot less tar produced in comparison to smoking). Others will stick by the plant and only by the plant. Those that dislike the intrusion of advanced technology in an industry like this will quickly come around to see its benefits rather than its negatives.
